MicroPoly-filled bearings do have speed limitations. The following formula and chart determine the maximum allowable speed for a MicroPoly-filled bearing running at room temperature.
Maximum RPM = | NDM Value |
1/2 (Bore + O.D.) |
Note: Bore and O.D. must be in mm. Limiting Speeds:
Bearing Type | Ndm Value |
---|---|
Single row ball bearing, metal cage | 300,000 |
Single row ball bearing, plastic cage | 40,000 |
Double row ball bearing | 150,000 |
Angular contact ball bearing | 150,000 |
Self-aligning ball bearing | 150,000 |
Cylindrical roller bearing | 150,000 |
Needle roller bearing | 150,000 |
Spherical roller bearing | 85,000 |
Tapered roller and roller thrust bearings | 45,000 |
Double tapered roller bearing | 22,500 |
These values are based on normal ambient operating temperatures. As operating temperatures increase, the maximum operating speed may have to be decreased.
The values reflected in the table above may be affected by the quality of the bearings used. High quality bearings generally outperform lower quality bearings.
